Exergaming is the best fun, the best mini trampoline exercises!

I'm still using Wii Fit Plus , mainly the jogging. I find it's the best one for that, but I have to tuck the controller into my sports bra. When I was holding it I noticed I would speed up then slow down and it got annoying. It keeps good pace with me now.

I'm also doing some of the yoga and muscle exercises, have increased that since my last post, I think it's well worth doing. Because you need the balance board for these it's no good for mini trampoline exercises, but it doesn't hurt to break it up a bit.

EA Sports Active: More Workouts is the new one I have. What worried me about it and made me hesitate over giving it a go was the leg strap, It comes with a leg strap to hold the wii nunchuk, for motion sensor of the lower body and I could just see it slipping down my leg all the time. However my fears were groundless, it sticks pretty well, I wear tracksuit pants when using it and have no problems.

This is a great workout btw. I'm a wimp and doing the easy 60 day challenge, I really should change it to intermediate but I find I'm out of breath with the easy one, anyway. I like the variety, one criticism of it is I wish they had more variety in the warm ups and cool downs but that's a pretty minor gripe.

Using the mini trampoline with this workout is good. Only thing I have trouble with is lunges. The rebounder's mat isn't big enough to do them well and half the time they don't register. But it's great for the waterskiing and other ones where you have to jump at different stages. I think running on this slows down using the rebounder, I had to work a lot harder to get a good run going, but that's probably a good thing. Totally recommend this to anyone looking at using the Wii for a bit of fitness.

Another one I've checked out is Gold's Gym Cardio Workout. This was surprising a great workout and it's a pretty cheap game too. It's mainly boxing but it is full on and you have to keep rhythm with the music, leaning back and forth sparring style. Great routine to add to the the mini trampoline exercises.

Another thing to tempt you to keep working at it is every time you go through a workout they give you virtual gold, the better your workout the more gold you get and you can spend the gold in their virtual shop and buy some really cool gear for your virtual self. That's pretty cool.

There are other exercises you can do on this. It also unlocks stuff as you go. I tried the skipping, but it didn't work so well as I kept tangling up with the rope. I think probably the rebounder had something to do with that, but I didn't care, just kept going.

Next one I've used is Just Dance. It's not bad, you're supposed to match the moves to the screen person dancing and it tells you if you get great, ok or missed. I missed a lot! But working on it, it's a bit of fun, could have more range in music. Once again very easy to use the mini trampoline with it.

I love this combo of the Wii and the mini trampoline. I don't think I would be enjoying either of them as much separately. It keeps me motivated to keep going.

I probably won't be using all of those every day but I plan on doing stuff every day and having a variety of games I think will be the key to this.

I'm still going to keep adding to my collection, the more choice the better I say. Will post any other great finds I get and progress reports on this blog.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5351162661309224202.post-315413754568257142009-12-15T21:07:00.000-08:002010-10-07T23:45:07.469-07:00Exergaming on the Wii

What is exergaming I hear you ask? Well, exergaming is the combination of exercise using a gaming console. Now known as Exergaming.

I've been slogging along with Nintendo Wii Console and Wii Fit Plus on the mini trampoline for a week now. My favorite is still the jogging. But I wish there was a way to control where you ran.

I also tried the cycling game in Wii Fit. It's enjoyable but have to use the Wii Fit bard to pedal so I can't use the trampoline. It's way harder on my feet. What I like about it I can steer the bike anywhere with the remote. This is definitely needed in the jogging. Just to make it feel more interactive.

My routine on the Wii (remember I'm a beginner):

I do some of the yoga moves, just the first couple in repetitions. The Half Moon Pose and The Warrior. And a couple of the muscle exercises, Single Leg Extension and Rowing Squat, it's just a 10 minute routine. I can't do some of the others, way too hard.

I then do an island lap jogging on the mini trampoline. This takes around 12 to 13 minutes and I am bushed afterwards. I do the jogging at least twice a day, sometimes three times. I'm hoping my stamina improves to be able to do longer jogging jaunts, but right now it kills me just going that long.

I sometimes do some other of the Wii aerobics activities. They all use the board, however and it's hard on the feet if you do it bare footed like me. The hula hoops is supposed to be great exercise, but I never liked hula hooping that much, not even in real life and I find it a bit tedious.

I also love the Wii tennis on the sports disc you get with the Wii. I'll play that multiple times a day. I use my rebounder and bounce between points and use full arm movements for hitting the ball. It's great fun, really feels like your hitting it. Only thing missing is actually running for the ball. The Mii's do that.../grin.

I've been using it a week now and haven't missed a day. My legs ache a bit, but the kind of ache you get when you know you've been doing some exercise.

I've gotten EA Sports Active: More Workouts. See how that goes. It sounds good but haven't really used it as yet. Will report on it in a later blog post.

Exergaming on the Wii is a lot of fun. The rebounder adds to the experience, I've also heard of people using their treadmills with the Wii jogging, I think that is a great idea also, but alas I don't have one and haven't got the room for one, anyway.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5351162661309224202.post-7271624658987384052009-12-12T22:17:00.000-08:002010-10-07T23:45:24.202-07:00Combining Nintendo Wii With The Mini TrampolineI finally broke down and bought a Wii Console and Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board (Nintendo Wii). To tell the truth it is a bit cutesy for my tastes but I really like the Wii Fit Plus and the sports package. It goes tremendously well with my mini trampoline. A lot of the Wii Fit plus stuff you need to stand on the board, but the jogging is great for the trampoline.

There are a few different jogging scenarios you can do and even a free running one where you can jog for 10, 20, 30 minutes. You can even change the channel and watch tv while you do it as the remote guides you. I like jogging with the Wii, as it keeps me motivated for using the trampoline.

I see people boasting at doing 30 minutes free jogging on the wii, and that's after doing other stuff like yoga, balance training and muscle training, geez, I can barely do 10 minutes right now. I am so out of shape, but, I'm working on it.

I also used it for playing tennis and other sports in the sports package and the Wii Sports Resort. Have to be careful which ones I use it for and experiment, don't want to cause injury or ruin game play. I'm still exploring the possibilities.

It does keep me more motivated for using the mini trampoline and it's plain fun!

Thinking of getting Just Dance for a workout on the mini trampoline. I think that would be a great combination. Yeah, I know I could just put sound tracks on and dance to them on the rebounder, but I think it would be more fun trying to match moves. Bit like the jogging, it's more fun jogging in Wii's virtual world. I'll be checking out other Wii titles to see what would be good with it too.

Will post more about my experiences with this as I go. And other Wii titles that I think goes well with my mini trampoline.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5351162661309224202.post-33574207513634009802009-12-09T18:22:00.000-08:002010-10-07T23:45:41.834-07:00Health Benefits of ReboundingWhen I first started looking into a rebounder or mini trampoline I couldn't believe how many research articles and health benefits articles that were around about rebounding. Here's some snippets to what I discovered:

"Provides a calorie burning strength conditioning workout"

A fun workout program that builds strength, cardiovascular capacity, and balance without jarring the body like other exercises

Simultaneously works all the major muscle groups and provides a calorie burning strength conditioning exercise

A total body workout that alongside cardiovascular movements, includes abdominal exercise, squats, lunges, push-ups, dips.

NASA Says: "Rebound exercise is the most efficient, effective form of exercise yet devised by man"

And this:

32 Ways the Body responds to Rebounding

The study of the human body is fairly interesting. The moment it becomes no less than amazing is when we understand what happens as the body is placed under the demands of movement and resistance we call exercise. Rebounding is an effective exercise that reduces your body fat; firms your arms, legs, thighs, abdomen, and hips; increases your agility; strengthens your muscles overall; provides an aerobic effect for your cardiopulmonary systems; rejuvenates your body when it's tired, and generally puts you in a state of mental and physical wellness. In fact, there are at least 32 fascinating ways the body responds to regular rebounding, detailed below:

1. Rebounding provides an increased G-force (gravitational load), which strengthens the musculoskeletal systems.

2. Rebounding protects the joints from the chronic fatigue and impact delivered by exercising on hard surfaces.

3. Rebounding helps manage body composition and improves muscle-to-fat ratio.

4. Rebounding aids lymphatic circulation by stimulating the millions of one-way valves in the lymphatic system.

5. Rebounding circulates more oxygen to the tissues.

6. Rebounding establishes a better equilibrium between the oxygen required by the tissues and the oxygen made available.

7. Rebounding increases capacity for respiration.

8. Rebounding tends to reduce the height to which the arterial pressures rise during exertion.

9. Rebounding lessens the time during which blood pressure remains abnormal after severe activity.

10. Rebounding assists in the rehabilitation of a heart problem.

11. Rebounding increases the functional activity of the red bone marrow in the production of red blood cells.

12. Rebounding improves resting metabolic rate so that more calories are burned for hours after exercise.

13. Rebounding causes muscles to perform work in moving fluids through the body to lighten the heart's load.

14. Rebounding decreases the volume of blood pooling in the veins of the cardiovascular system preventing chronic edema.

15. Rebounding encourages collateral circulation by increasing the capillary count in the muscles and decreasing the distance between the capillaries and the target cells.

16. Rebounding strengthens the heart and other muscles in the body so that they work more efficiently.

17. Rebounding allows the resting heart to beat less often.

18. Rebounding lowers circulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

19. Rebounding lowers low-density lipoprotein (bad) in the blood and increases high-density lipoprotein (good) holding off the incidence of coronary artery disease.

20. Rebounding promotes tissue repair.

21. Rebounding for longer than 20 minutes at a moderate intensity increases the mitochondria count within the muscle cells, essential for endurance.

22. Rebounding adds to the alkaline reserve of the body, which may be of significance in an emergency requiring prolonged effort.

23. Rebounding improves coordination between the propreoceptors in the joints, the transmission of nerve impulses to and from the brain, transmission of nerve impulses and responsiveness of the muscle fibers.

24. Rebounding improves the brain’s responsiveness to the vestibular apparatus within the inner ear, thus improving balance.

25. Rebounding offers relief from neck and back pains, headaches, and other pain caused by lack of exercise.

26. Rebounding enhances digestion and elimination processes.

27. Rebounding allows for deeper and easier relaxation and sleep.

28. Rebounding results in better mental performance, with keener learning processes.

29. Rebounding curtails fatigue and menstrual discomfort for women.

30. Rebounding minimizes the number of colds, allergies, digestive disturbances, and abdominal problems.

31. Rebounding tends to slow down atrophy in the aging process.

32. Rebounding is an effective modality by which the user gains a sense of control and an improved self image.

People who rebound find they are able to work longer, sleep better, and feel less tense and nervous. The effect is not just psychological, because the action of bouncing up and down against gravity effectively stimulates the lymphatic system without trauma to the musculoskeletal system. This unique discovery is central to the reasons Rebounding has become one of the most beneficial forms of exercise ever developed.

Hard to go past the rebounder in the face of all that. You know, I was interested in it before I learned all these benefits because it seemed like an easy thing to jump on and get some exercise when I could. So I feel even better about getting one now!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5351162661309224202.post-31424266890222150682009-12-09T02:08:00.000-08:002010-10-07T23:46:07.261-07:00Getting The Mini TrampolineGot my Urban Rebounder the other day, came with Urban Rebounding Workout DVD, Compilation 1 and a carrying bag.

First off it is 100 times better than the mini trampoline I got from Deals Direct. I can actually bounce on it!!! But the bounce probably isn't as soft as some that I have been jealously looking at.

The Cellerciser, Needak and ReboundAIR have all come across in my research as great rebounders with a soft bounce. Unfortunately those ones are difficult to get in Australia, right now anyway.

I got my Urban rebounder from Reboundoz who are a distributer for them, it's been rebranded as Reboundoz though. I do like it because I can exercise on it, so that's the main thing. Came with 3 years warranty on the frame and 1 year warranty for parts.

It's also more expensive here than in the US. On par with the price for the Needak or ReboundAIR, but a Cellerciser is still a bit more expensive.

Now, about using it. I plonked in the first timers dvd. No way could I keep up! I need to build up stamina I think before hitting the dvds. I can handle 10 minutes at a time on it. First thing in the morning I just spend 10 minutes doing a gentle health bounce where my feet don't actually leave the trampoline it's still a very beneficial exercise to do for the Lymphatic system, helps get rid of toxins and wastes from your body quicker.

I then spend a couple more times on it jogging on the spot for 10 minutes at a time. Once my stamina increases I will increase the time spent on it from 10 to 15 and so on till I can manage a 30 minute workout.

Also once my stamina is better I will try more of the stuff on the dvd's. I think they are good, but I just can't do a full workout of them at this time and the strenuous nature of the exercises tire me out sooner. Or I should say my legs start to give out. I've read about people complaining about sore feet when starting out on a mini trampoline if they don't use shoes, I haven't had this problem. I only jump on it in bare feet. My legs, however, aren't exactly sore but feel like they will give way after a bit. I think it's just a matter of getting strength back into my legs and building up stamina.

At first I wasn't too interested in following any dvd's but I think I have changed my mind about that. They look like they could be fun and break it up a bit with different stuff to do on the rebounder. Will see how it goes anyway.

I want to start out slow and take it from there. Once I feel comfortable with 10 minutes I will push myself to 15 minutes. It's a great way of exercising and my back already feels better.

Highly recommend the mini trampolines. Only, please, go that bit extra and get a descent one. Those cheap nasty ones I think should be banned.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5351162661309224202.post-77300014428782100322009-12-08T00:10:00.000-08:002010-10-08T22:40:16.600-07:00The Best ReboundersIn my research for a rebounder, the Cellerciser, Needak and Reboundair are ones I wish I could of had a choice at. Unfortunately in Australia the pickings for rebounders are limited. Lucky people in the US have a lot more choices.

The Urban rebounder, which I ended up with as I couldn't get the above mentioned brands, is still a better choice than any of the cheaper ones bought at sporting goods stores or department stores, but I wouldn't mind a softer bounce than it affords.

Not knowing any better at the time I decided to get a mini trampoline and not doing much research on them. I bought a cheap one and the jarring I got on the bounce sent shooting pains up my back. I don't get that with the Urban rebounder. At the time I did have a sore back but I'm glad I got the Urban rebounder in the end, however, I would of splurged on either a Cellerciser, Needak or Reboundair had I been able too.
I have developed a bit of a sore back which I largely blame on my slackness. Anyway I was racking my head thinking of something that would be easy, not take up much room and I would enjoy.

I remembered years ago when I used to go to the gym they had these mini trampolines and I thought. That's it!

Without putting much research into this I ordered one from Deals Direct (Australia). It cost all up AUD$60. I received it but geez, it was so hard, there was no give in the springs at all. I might as well have been bouncing on a hard surface compared to that thing.

Ok, lesson learned. I had to return it, it was just too jarring for me to use. It shot a sharp pain up my back when I used it. I think these types of mini trampolines should be banned, I'm sure it would of been detrimental to my health to keep it up.

I did some googleing on the net. Well, the US and UK seem to have heaps of good brands out there with a soft rebounding action. Unfortunately in AUS we are once again deprived of choice.

I went and checked out Work Out World a very large distributor of fitness equipment here and the mini trampoline showed to me was exactly like the one from Deals Direct, except $30 more expensive. The guy tried to tell me that it had to be so stiff and hard to guarantee holding a 100kg that it states it can. (Yeah, right)

These mini trampolines are supposed to be a low impact exercise. It was worse impact because of the jarring you get on it with each bounce.

Anyway, I could only find three distributors here in Australia for descent mini trampolines. The RH48 Body Energiser, but that was for AUD$850, that's a bit rich for me. I'm sure it's very good, but it doesn't have to be that good. The Starbound Lymphaciser rebounder, cheapest being AUD$455, that's still a bit much. And the Urban Rebounder distributed by Reboundoz. The Health Bounce package 1 is what I went for, it's a half folding rebounder for easy storage and comes with a carry bag and a dvd, it was AUD$230. Not too fussed about the dvd, I don't plan on doing too much aerobic stuff on it, mainly going to use it for just jogging and bouncing while getting low impact on joints.

I've only just ordered it, but I've seen the videos of it in action and the specs, so I will see how it goes. Hopefully it is what I'm looking for.

Will post again once I have it and report my findings about this mini trampoline.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5351162661309224202.post-24415304471728662152009-12-01T06:50:00.000-08:002010-02-23T20:05:34.209-08:00Recommended Wii Games
